Destiny fans have cause to be excited as Bungie and Activision have revealed Rise of Iron, a brand new expansion for Destiny.

The expansion introduces new quests, strikes, a raid and a new zone on Earth. It will continue Destiny's story as guardians try to earn a place as a next generation Iron Lord with the help of a hero from humanity's Golden Age.

"Rise of Iron is an exciting addition to the Destiny universe," said Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie. "We are continually blown away and inspired by the growing Destiny community's energy and enthusiasm."

"We have been working hard with our partners at Bungie and are planning great, new content for Destiny's 30 million registered players," added Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "Rise of Iron is the first step in fulfilling that promise. There's a ton of content packed in Rise of Iron, including a new location, a new Raid and a new Strike, combined with more quests, weapons, gear, a competitive multiplayer mode and more that we think players are going to love."

Players will do battle against a mutated faction of the Fallen across new story quests in a new zone called The Plaguelands. Players will also face their new foes in a new strike and raid dubbed Felwinter Peak.

Multiplayer is not being ignored either, and Bungie has promised a new mode and maps as well as the obligatory increase in light level.
