DIMMU BORGIR - New Album Title, Cover Artwork Revealed
Posted: July 07, 2010 at 14:29 (PST)
Nuclear Blast has sent METALEATER this press release:
The cover artwork created for the new DIMMU BORGIR album "Abrahadabra" by German artist / painter / graphic designer Joachim Luetke (ARCH ENEMY, KREATOR, SOPOR AETERNUS) has been revealed.
The word "abrahadabra" (which roughly translates into "I will create as I speak") first publicly appeared in Chapter III of Liber AL vel Legis (commonly referred to as The Book of the Law) written by Aleister Crowley in Cairo, Egypt in 1904.
DIMMU BORGIR singer/songwriter Shagrath shares the following about the new album:
"After eleven months of total focus, dedication and professional team work, Darkness has been reborn. Some people have expressed their concern about the future of the band since the departure of some members of the clan. Let me assure you that things happen for a reason. The black flame burns brighter than ever before. With the mixture of our different musical preferences and the personalities involved, I will dare to say we have created a BEAST, the most detailed work to date out of our 17 years of existence. I know it's too much of a cliche to brag when you have a done a new album, but to put it short and simple, it's a fist in the face to all the doubters out there. Forward - Onward - March... ENTER THE SUPREME UNKNOWN."
For the second time in the band's career (i.e. 1996's Stormblast), a one-word album title breaks the tradition of a three-word album title for a new studio release dating back to DIMMU BORGIR's 1994's debut, "For All Tid".
Guitarist/songwriter Silenoz has this to say on the topic:
"We knew there would be some big changes with this album in more than one way and since we've had the three word title tradition for many years now, we thought it'd make a lot of sense for us to move on from that. It has served its purpose. We are a band that's all about change and moving forward. An album title consisting of one word goes hand-in-hand with the new material - it describes both the musical and lyrical content in a more imaginary way, not to mention the unity and the everlasting flame which is DIMMU BORGIR. Expect the unexpected!"
When asked about the central figure in the artwork and who/what he's supposed to represent, artist Joachim Luetke responds:
"I think that's obvious. Since the whole ‘setting' is located in an icy, bleak, winter-y, post-industrial era, we're pretty close to H.P. Lovecraft's nameless elder gods. They're represented by the mask's tentacles. In short: the mask/face personifies dominion of powers far beyond mankind. The nameless gods witnessed the birth of our universe and they'll watch it implode. To them, the age of mankind is but a blink of an eye."
"Abrahadabra" will be released in Germany on September 24, in the rest of Europe on September 27, and in North America on October 12.

CRADLE OF FILTH - Nuclear Blast To Release New Album In North America
Posted: July 07, 2010 at 14:24 (PST)
Nuclear Blast has sent METALEATER this press release:
One of the most infamous and notorious names in Metal, CRADLE OF FILTH, continue to shock, excite, disgust and inspire in equal measures. On November 9, 2010 in North America, the latest chapter of the band's dark history will be released through Nuclear Blast USA.
Frederick Jude, Managing Director of Peaceville Records, comments on this upcoming cooperative effort: "Football aside, we're pleased to be teaming up with Nuclear Blast on this very important release. Given their resources, interest in the band, and track record in the U.S., we believe CRADLE OF FILTH will be best positioned to better the sales of their last album in North America."
Grammy-nominated CRADLE OF FILTH have been pioneers of extreme music since their 1994 debut and have continued to evolve with each of their subsequent releases. The band have continually refused to bow to convention or conform to prevalent trends and fads and have constantly sought to push the boundaries of their art.
Whether through their wildly elaborate and theatrical live shows (which incorporate giant lumbering puppets, fire-breathing dancers, freaks and stilt-walkers), provocative merchandise, breathtaking artwork, or the weighty subject matter of their albums (their latest told the story of a French Lord who fought alongside Joan Of Arc before embarking on a horrific killing spree), this is a band whose uncompromising stance has been rewarded with legions of fans around the world, making them the most successful British Heavy Metal band since IRON MAIDEN.
This month, vocalist Dani Filth, guitarists Paul Allender and James McIlroy, bassist David Pybus, drummer Martin Skaroupka and keyboard player Ashley Ellyllon enter Monkey Puzzle Studios near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, England to begin work on the follow-up to 2008's "Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder". Loyal stalwarts to the satanic horror ethos, CRADLE OF FILTH will compose another concept album, this time based on Adam's first wife, the lascivious demoness Lilith. Throwing medieval nuns, Knights Templars, Greek mythology, lashings of sex, occult lore, and violent bloodshed together into a creative milieu, the band are poised to create a darkly erotic nightmare set to their unique scope of supreme vampyric Metal.

THERION's Snowy Shaw Forced To Miss This Weekend's RockHarz Festival
Posted: July 07, 2010 at 14:18 (PST)
METALEATER has received news that THERION singer/frontman Snowy Shaw is forced to sit out this weekend's show at the RockHarz festival in Germany due to sickness.
This festival would have been Snowy's last show with the band after he had decided to part ways with THERION after four years, two studio albums, live DVDs and numerous tours around the world.
However, Snowy is included and has contributed writing and co-writ"ing songs on the forthcoming THERION album, Sitra Ahra" (scheduled for release through Nuclear Blast in September).
Shaw states: "I've had a terrific and great time touring and working with THERION and I do wish them nothing but the best in the future, but I've felt for some time that it's time for me to move on. I also wanna take the opportunity to show my gratitude and thank all the loyal fans for their support, love and understanding."
This, however, will not effect their shows and THERION will continue as planned, and Thomas Vikstrom will from now on handle Snowy's parts too, at Rockharz Festival and the following tours in South/Central America, Mexico, Europe, Russia and so on.
In addition, on the side of his vocal duties, as a graphic designer and artist Snowy was hired to be in charge of the visual aspects and help improve their stage act and performance for the "Gothic Kabbalah" world tour 2007 and THERION's 20th anniversary tour.

HEMOPTYSIS Win Second Consecutive Year At Phoenix Music Awards
Posted: July 06, 2010 at 11:48 (PST)
Arizona-based extreme Metal band, HEMOPTYSIS, have been chosen to receive their second consecutive "Metal Band of the Year" award. Guitarist/vocalist, Masaki Murashita, has recently received verbal confirmation from Phoenix Music Awards founder, Al Bowman, regarding the honor. This year's incarnation of the event is scheduled for November 18, 2010 at The Paramount Theater in Hollywood, CA.
Artists chosen to receive an award from the Phoenix Music Awards are evaluated by event producers and advisory board members before being selected. The selection process is based on the quality of recorded work submitted or seen at a live music venue in Arizona. Each recipient must also be in good standing as members of the international independent music community.
HEMOPTYSIS are also tentatively scheduled to return to the studio this month with award-winning producer, Ryan Greene (MEGADETH) to begin recording their debut full-length album. This is the long awaited follow up to their acclaimed five-song debut EP and Ryan Greene-produced CD single, "Shadow Of Death".
Following the studio, and after a short hiatus, the band will embark on the 2010 Fall Southwest Tour. HEMOPTYSIS will be joined by Chaos Ascending, as they play September dates across the Southwestern United States from California to Texas.

DIMMU BORGIR - Portion Of New Album Artwork Revealed
Posted: July 06, 2010 at 11:39 (PST)
Nuclear Blast has sent METALEATER this press release:
The first of four portions of the new artwork for the as-yet-untitled DIMMU BORGIR album has been uploaded online.
Joachim Luetke (ARCH ENEMY, KREATOR, SOPOR AETERNUS), German artist / painter / graphic designer who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Austria, lends his disturbing talents to the new DIMMU BORGIR album.
When asked what he feels his approach does for DIMMU BORGIR, Luetke responds: "My artwork visualizes their music, adds another (optical) dimension to it. I don't know exactly how this works. Cannot tell what kind of interior mechanism gets triggered by their music, but it's clearly an utmost powerful one. Analyzing this means destroying it. As for our repeated collaborations, well, that's probably because we share the similar philosophy at eye level."
Luetke's artwork and layout art also graces two other DIMMU BORGIR albums: 2003's "Death Cult Armageddon", which has sold 130,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuted at #7 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, #10 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and #170 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and 2007's "In Sorte Diaboli", which has sold over 75,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and at #43 on the Top 200 Albums chart.
In early June, DIMMU BORGIR proudly announced their collaboration with Norwegian composer and Berklee College of Music summa cum laude alumnus Gaute Storaas in addition to the 51 members of KORK (the Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and the 38-member Schola Cantorum Choir for their new release. To date, over 101 musicians have contributed to the making of the new album.
Composer Gaute Storaas has said of DIMMU BORGIR: "Their music is epic, thematic and symphonic already from the creation; they are clearly having an orchestral approach to composing."
DIMMU BORGIR's ninth studio album will be released in Germany on September 24, in the rest of Europe on September 27, and in North America on October 12.

IN THIS MOMENT - New Track Online
Posted: July 06, 2010 at 11:31 (PST)
Century Media has sent METALEATER this press release:
We are only just a mere few weeks away from the release of the new IN THIS MOMENT album, A Star-Crossed Wasteland (July 12 across Europe), and the reaction to "The Gun Show" proves that this is one of the most anticipated metal releases of the year. Just to further wet fan's voracious appetites for this new material even more, the band has posted the new track, "Just Drive," on their MySpace and Facebook pages.
IN THIS MOMENT recently performed on Fuel TV's "The Daily Habit" show, which will debut later this month. View some behind-the-scenes photos from the performance.
Chris Howorth (guitars) checks in with the following report: "As I write this we are currently nine days from the start of the Mayhem Fest. We have been holed up in our rehearsal studio for the last two weeks working on all the new songs and putting together our set list. We have dialed in a pretty brutal set comprised of songs from our first album and our new CD. We can't wait to unleash these songs on the Mayhem crowd every day. Over the last two days we have also done a live performance for Fuel TV and an acoustic performance/interview for Revolver TV. Both performances went great and we were stoked that our good friend Adrian Patrick from Otherwise flew in to perform the song 'The Promise' with us at both events. It was crazy seeing a dude on stage singing with us, but it was also a really cool change from the norm. Maria and Adrian are singing this duet together and playing off each other so it's really dramatic. Also, on a really cool side note, Adrian is planning to follow the Mayhem tour to perform 'The Promise' with us each day, so fans will get to see the song performed just like it is on the album all summer. We just released a new song called 'Just Drive' and it's one of Maria's and my favorite songs from the album. It's a driving up tempo song with an epic chorus and aggressive guitar work. We can't wait for fans to hear it. We love you guys and will see you out there!"

INSIDIOUS DISEASE - New Album Artwork Video Trailer Up
Posted: July 01, 2010 at 12:32 (PST)
Century Media has sent METALEATER this press release:
Extreme Metal legends have united as INSIDIOUS DISEASE will unleash the most violent Death Metal album to come along in years. The evil breed consisting of DIMMU BORGIR's main songwriter Silenoz, bassist Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH), guitarist Jardar (OLD MAN'S CHILD), drummer Tony Laureano (ANGELCORPSE, NILE) and vocalist Marc Grewe (from German Death Metal legends MORGOTH) will release its debut album "Shadowcast" via Century Media Records on July 12 in Europe and July 27 in North America.
INSIDIOUS DISEASE is proud to unveil a brand new artwork trailer for "Shadowcast" offering a glimpse at the morbid visuals accompanying the release.
To watch the band's current video clip "Rituals Of Bloodshed" and check out further tracks, head over now to MySpace.
Silenoz further explains the concept of "Shadowcast", which has way more to offer than just typical Death Metal gore galore:
"The basic idea behind Shadowcast lyrically is an attempt to describe the 'misfits' in this world: the misunderstood, mentally defect and depraved individuals that walk among us - rapists, serial killers, pedophiles, necrophiles and drug addicts, etc. It could be your neighbor, you just never know, it could be YOU!
Denial and self-denial are taboos that seldom are touched upon unless it's behind closed doors at the shrink's office. Even so, no matter how disturbing the subject might be, we hardly get to the bottom of it. Each text tries to approach the many outcast stereotypes we face in today's modern society, and how most of them once caught get neglected and pushed away instead of being offered proper assistance, support and help through various institutions according to their 'needs'. Let's face it, we humans equal shit.
In some countries where death penalties apply the convicts also have to wait years before being executed, which is inhumane as things need to be dealt with as soon as possible. We humans are better at pushing things away and destroying than facing a problem and try to rehabilitate. Most people reading the lyrics and seeing the booklet photos will perhaps immediately assume that it's all about glorifying violence and hatred, but if you read between the lines it's actually kind of the opposite, portraying this very issue.
So, the album title 'Shadowcast' has somewhat of a double meaning; all of these 'actors and actresses' star in the shadowcast. They are the true stars of the underground, our very own dark backyard. The backyard we humans hate dealing with because it means interacting with other people and as they mingle among us daily they continue to 'cast their shadows' at us."
INSIDIOUS DISEASE also faced serious problems during the manufacturing process as pressing plants refused to produce the original design of the booklet due to its violent content as well as print the equally controversial lyrics, Silenoz states: "It's quite fascinating that in the year of 2010 album artwork can be so scary that manufacturing plants don't even dare to print it. I always thought reality still was more frightening compared to art in that sense, but I guess I was wrong! Controversy is still to be reckoned with in the world of metal and if we're being censored for being realistic and touch upon human flaws through our lyrics and art - then so be it."

THE CROWN Sign With Century Media
Posted: June 30, 2010 at 12:01 (PST)
Century Media has sent METALEATER this press release:
Swedish Death Metal legends THE CROWN have signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records.
Marko Tervonen (guitars) states: "We are happy as hell to turn a new page in THE CROWN's history book and to pick up the journey with Century Media Records supporting us feels great. We can't wait to unleash the new album, 'Doomsday King', upon you all!"
Jens Prueter (Head of A+R, Century Media Europe) further comments: "Some of the very early Century Media signings have been UNLEASHED, GRAVE, TIAMAT, ASPHYX, MORGOTH - the glory days of the first Death Metal wave. We are still in love with Death Metal and are more than proud to announce the signing of Swedish Death Metal legends THE CROWN. They haven't lost any aggression since the early 90's and are still a guarantee for some Death Metal Holocaust! In case of doubt, go to one of the summer festivals and hear some new songs live before the album's fall release. We will be there as well. Cheers!"
The band was founded in 1990 in Trollhattan under the name CROWN OF THORNS but was forced to change their name to THE CROWN in 1998 due to another band from the U.S. using that name. Three of the original founding members are still in the band: Marko Tervonen (guitar), Magnus Olsfelt (bass) and Janne Saarenpaa (drums). In 1993, Marcus Sunesson (guitar) stepped in to replace Robert Osterberg. In 2004, the band announced their break up, but by good luck for all Death Metal fans, the band decided to reform in 2009 with Jonas Stalhammar (from the Death Metal pioneers GOD MACABRE) taking over vocal duties from Johan Lindstrand.

MECHA MESSIAH - 10 Year Anniversary Show Announced
Posted: June 25, 2010 at 11:40 (PST)
Vocalist Brian Langely (TYRANTS BLOOD, MECHA MESSIAH, ex-INFERNAL MAJESTY) has provided this lengthy message:
"10 years of Bloody History...
Until recently, I hadn't given much thought about how long I've kept this band going. Most people in the Vancouver area have never even seen this band play live, but they have heard of it. We were never a band to play a lot of shows. The busiest year we ever had for shows was probably 2003 we played 8 shows that year.
The start of the band was early 2000. I was in Grade 11. The original lineup was:
Brian Langley - Guitar and Vocals James Macfarlane - Guitar (Currently plays in LEAGUE OF CORRUPTION) Jeff Greig - Bass Mike Morin - Drums
This line-up was unofficially known as MECHA MESSIAH (The drummer Mike and guitar player James didn't like the name). The bass player Jeff came up with the name. Although half the band didn't like the name the three shows that the band played with this lineup the crowd called us MECHA MESSIAH anyway.
Late 2000/early 2001 - The MM mark II lineup when we were officially going by MECHA MESSIAH is when things really started to shape up.
Brian Langley - Guitar and Vocals Mike Fezza - Guitar Jeff Greig - Bass Adam Baldwin - Drums (ex- SHIVER, currently plays in PEDWELL)
We recorded our horrible sounding 2001 twelve song demo 'Mechanized' We recorded it ourselves at our highschool (North Delta Senior Secondary). We had no help and no idea how to make a record and it shows. This lineup played our first downtown show the day after 9/11 at the Cobalt. Due to a shoulder injury Jeff had to leave the band in Late 2002. Jerad Fennell joined on bass. Roughly three months later guitarist Mike Fezza announces he'll be leaving the band.
2004-2005 MM mark III:
Brian Langley - Guitar and Vocals Chris Barlow - Guitar and Vocals (currently plays in LEAGUE OF CORRUPTION) Jerad Fennell - Bass and Vocals (ex-LEAGUE OF CORRUPTION) Adam Baldwin - Drums
This lineup recorded 2004's 'What it should have been' We went to a basement studio at a shady persons house. It was a nightmare. Again, little to no help from the soundman. Another horrible sounding album. We also recorded a couple of songs for the 2 compilation CD's 'Shake your Foundation' 1 and 2. Adam Baldwin was fired/quit in 2005. In 2006 drummer Chris Shuh (currently plays in you guessed it! LEAGUE OF CORRUPTION)
2006 Unhappy with the direction of the band I decided I wanted to take a break from it and Chris Barlow agreed that the music I wanted to play and the music he wanted to play just wasn't meshing. It's around this time that Chris Barlow went on with Chris Shuh, Jerad Fennell and old MM alumni James Macfarlane.
2007-2010:
I felt the time was right and that I had found the right musicians to start the band up once again. While 'taking time off' I recorded and produced the 2007 EP Sacrifice, I play all instruments on this as well as drum loops edits. Sadly, the sound on this EP is far superior to any other recordings of the band.
The mark IV and current lineup:
Brian Langley - Guitar and Vocals Mike Fezza - Guitar (That's right he came back for more) Darin Wall - Bass and Vocals (currently plays in ENTROPIA) Ryan 'Zeus' Mackie - Drums (ex-OMEGA CROM, ex-CRADLE TO GRAVE, currently plays in COCAINE MOUSTACHE)
I've had the most fun playing in this incarnation. The whole reason this band has existed for 10 years is because it was fun. From our crazy Halloween shows and DEATH tributes... It still is fun. However, We just can't seem to find the time to give it it's proper due anymore. I can't give it the time anymore. I hope someday down the road that we can but none of us can put a date on when that will be.
It is looking like July 16 at Funky Winkerbeans will be our last show for the next foreseeable future, (Unless someone comes forward to book us in August or we find a show to get on at which point that will be our last show). I really hope as we celebrate 10 years of MECHA MESSIAH and quite possibly the last show with our friends FALLEN DECADE, THEOCIDE, and FOR YOUR LIBERATION, that everyone comes out to give this band the proper send off I feel it deserves. This band has meant the world to me, anyone that knows me, knows this. I hope you can come out and show us that it meant something to you too."
