Ever since the debut of the massively popular Assassin's Creed video game franchise, fans have been clamouring for a film adaption. Today, rumors and speculation have given way to anticipation as New Regency Productions announced shooting was set to begin on August 31 of this year.
Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Prometheus) is set to play the titular role as Callum Lynch, a descendent of the secretive Assassin Order. Lynch unlocks his genetic memories allowing him to revisit the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.
The production reunites Justin Kurzel, who directed Fassbender's acclaimed on-screen performance in Macbeth. The cast also includes Michael Kenneth Williams, who voiced Sgt. Kimble "Irish" Graves in Battlefield 4, and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight).
Assassin's Creed is set for release in theaters December 21, 2016.
